Be Ready to Be Slayed - Booktube Interview w/ Marie Lu +GIVEAWAY

Maybe you've been sleeping under a rock or maybe you saw our post of YA characters we'd want on our Warcross team but EITHER WAY - There's a new Marie Lu book and it will slllllaaay you. Seriously, just start plotting your funeral now because you're about to be dead.

If you've ever met Marie Lu, you know she is so sweet, so smart, and just genuinely amazing. Don't be fooled - she will gut you and Warcross is no different than Legend (who's waiting for their Life After Legend novella? 🙋) and The Young Elites (#TeamAdelina for life). Warcross is an ocean of feels and a rollercoaster full of whiplash worthy moments that will have you thinking you figured it all out (and even if you figured stuff out in Warcross, I am certain we will be thrown off course in book 2).

Emika, Hideo, and the cast of characters in Warcross are people you'd want in your world. They're probably just like people you know - including the diversity. Marie Lu does a seamless job of representing the real world through the lens of the characters. Can we talk about the romance in this book? Because it was H O T.

We sat down with Marie at her recent event here in the Bay Area (recap below) to ask her all of our burning questions. Check it out below and enter to win your own copy!

For the millions who log in every day, Warcross isn’t just a game—it’s a way of life. The obsession started ten years ago and its fan base now spans the globe, some eager to escape from reality and others hoping to make a profit. Struggling to make ends meet, teenage hacker Emika Chen works as a bounty hunter, tracking down players who bet on the game illegally. But the bounty hunting world is a competitive one, and survival has not been easy. Needing to make some quick cash, Emika takes a risk and hacks into the opening game of the international Warcross Championships—only to accidentally glitch herself into the action and become an overnight sensation.

Convinced she’s going to be arrested, Emika is shocked when instead she gets a call from the game’s creator, the elusive young billionaire Hideo Tanaka, with an irresistible offer. He needs a spy on the inside of this year’s tournament in order to uncover a security problem . . . and he wants Emika for the job. With no time to lose, Emika’s whisked off to Tokyo and thrust into a world of fame and fortune that she’s only dreamed of. But soon her investigation uncovers a sinister plot, with major consequences for the entire Warcross empire.
