Around here, we keep it mostly YA but every once in awhile, an adult book creeps in. It takes a lot to get either of us excited about an adult title so the fact that I am bringing not one but TWO titles to the blog today should tell you something ;).
Kristan Higgins' recent release, On Second Thought, is a story of love and loss and so much more. The Secrets She Kept by Brenda Novak is also a story of love and loss and so much more. Though they are two completely different books, the similarities are enough to draw parallels and make me excited to discuss their stories with the authors.
Each book revolves around a set of siblings who are at a fork in the road we call life. They've loved. They've lost. Their sibling relationships are on shaky grounds and the books explore that in depth. While these two authors are typically romance novelists (and there's no mistaking the steamy romances in both of the books), they each embark on an additional journey, with On Second Thought veering into Chick Lit and The Secrets She Kept firmly in the suspense/mystery category.
To say I loved them is an understatement. I'm extremely excited to moderate a discussion between them exploring writing about siblings, their unique settings and the role is plays, and find out more about what makes them such successful writers.
If you're local, I hope you'll join me at Copperfield's Novato TOMORROW at 7pm as I chat with the authors and celebrate Girl's Night Out (there will be chocolate)! See more about the event here!
