FROST BLOOD Blog Tour: Review & Giveaway!

Hello lovely readers. Thank you for coming by on our tour stop for FROST BLOOD by Rock Star Blog Tours. FROST BLOOD by Elly Blake is one of my new favorite reads for this year. The world that she has created along with her memorable protagonist and budding romance had me powering through this fast-paced read and wanting to know what comes next. To know more about this great read check out my review in this post and don't forget to enter in the giveway.

Title: FROSTBLOOD
Author: Elly Blake
Pub. Date: January 10, 2017
Publisher: Little, Brown Books for Young Readers
Pages: 384
Formats: Hardcover, paperback, eBook, audiobook

Seventeen-year-old Ruby is a fireblood who must hide her powers of heat and flame from the cruel frostblood ruling class that wants to destroy all that are left of her kind. So when her mother is killed for protecting her and rebel frostbloods demand her help to kill their rampaging king, she agrees. But Ruby's powers are unpredictable, and she's not sure she's willing to let the rebels and an infuriating (yet irresistible) young man called Arcus use her as their weapon.

All she wants is revenge, but before they can take action, Ruby is captured and forced to take part in the king's tournaments that pit fireblood prisoners against frostblood champions. Now she has only one chance to destroy the maniacal ruler who has taken everything from her and from the icy young man she has come to love.

Fast-paced and compelling, Frostblood is the first in a page-turning new young adult three-book series about a world where flame and ice are mortal enemies—but together create a power that could change everything.

MY THOUGHTS:

Frostblood was one of those reads that completely enslaved me from the very beginning. The world, the characters and the romance that could melt your heart faster than you can say "Fireblood."

Frostblood begins well enough with a quick introduction into Ruby's world and the struggle she endures to control her magic. She has always tried to keep her magic at bay and do as she is told by her mother, but a careless mistake alters her destiny causes her to be imprisoned and leads her in a direction she never imagined.

What I liked about this story is how it was so well paced. I was led into the world with rapt fascination and eager to learn more of Frostbloods and Firebloods and their histories. Then as the world opened up and secrets were revealed I was wanting more. This is all made possible because Elly Blake has created a world that is new and fascinating.

Not only did I enjoy her world building but I was a such a fan of her protagonist Ruby, who despite her harrowing situation is able to rise above it. She is not the typical heroic protagonist but she labors to find her way and I enjoyed her journey. Another great bit about this story is the slow building romance between Ruby and Arcus. It's that simmering slow boil that I enjoy seeing and it kept me hanging on tender hooks. *sigh*

For fans of a good fantasy read that has great fighting scenes and a swoon worthy romance set in a wholly unique world, then  Frostblood is for you.

About Elly:
Elly Blake loves fairy tales, old houses, and owls. After earning a BA in English literature, she held a series of seemingly random jobs, including project manager, customs clerk, graphic designer, reporter for a local business magazine, and library assistant. She lives in Southwestern Ontario with her husband, kids and a Siberian Husky mix who definitely shows Frostblood tendencies.

Her work is represented by Suzie Townsend of New Leaf Literary & Media.
