The Thanks U Give: Thankful for Our Local Booksellers & Indie Bookstores

Many thanks to our friends at ChasingFaeryTales & StayBookish for creating the amazing opportunity for the bookish community to give thanks this holiday season.

We are constantly humble-bragging about just about incredible the Bay Area bookish community is. We have bookstores, authors, and bookish people galore. But truly, the bookish community is great because we are lucky enough to have AMAZING booksellers who bring us the best events. This is our post honoring their hard work.

Angela @ Kepler's

Angela works for Kepler's Books in Menlo Park and she manages all the Young Adult events for the bookstore. You can search far and wide but you could not find anyone that is as kind or as well respected in the business as she is. Angela always has a big smile and a warm hug to greet you and she can talk to you about all things (YA) books and has the best recommendations. Kepler's also has a great selection of Young Adult books and a good amount of signed copies from many popular authors. We are so very thankful for having someone like Angela in our lives and in our beloved bookstore. We go to Kepler's for the many events that they host but it's Angela that truly makes our visit worthwhile.

Jane, Maryanne, & Suzi @ Hicklebee's

The team at Hicklebee's is absolutely astounding and makes everyone who comes in the store feel welcome. They've been extremely accommodating in letting us film our book talks within the store. But what we most love is how they make the teens the top priority during the author events. The teens run the show, from the introductions to organizing the signing line, to creating other fun activities! As you can see in the photo, it's always a great time.

Kathleen owns a small independent bookstore named A Great Good Place for Books located in Montclair Village of Oakland, California. A Great Good Place or otherwise known as the GGP is a keystone for the Montclair community. It has a constant flow of customers that come in to buy books or to simply chat with Kathleen whom she all welcomes by name. GGP is very cozy and with a good selection of books, especially it's YA section that Kathleen will have no problem recommending a few novels for you to take home and love. Did we mention the cookies? Kathleen always has cookies available for her beloved customers to enjoy as they peruse her store, read a couple pages or simply hang out and chat. We are very blessed to have Kathleen in our lives because she is a good friend, a great community support and she loves everything YA.

Hannah works for Books Inc. as the events coordinator for Not Your Mother's Book Club otherwise known as NYMBC. This book club was founded years ago by literary agent, Jennifer Laughran and has successfully created a legacy that is well known and respected in the Young Adult community. Although NYMBC isn't really a club but more of a Young Adult Author Salon that throws parties, has great snacks and encourages our love of reading. And it would not be made possible without being managed by a person with mad skills and that would be our friend Hannah. She has an endless love for books and is proud to be a part of the Books Inc. family and it shows. We consider ourselves lucky to have her take the helm of such an important institution.
