GEMINA BLOG TOUR: Transcription (Review) and GIVEAWAY!

Briefing Note:
Transcription of emotions by Nancy from Tales of the Ravenous Reader
Prepared by: Analyst ID IWUV-2-READ

When we were contacted by the publisher to review GEMINA and host a giveaway we could not believe our good fortune. ILLUMINAE was both of our favored reads and we could wait to devour the next installment in this series and boy-oh-boy did it ever deliver.
Okay! I am not going to lie. I LOVE THIS BOOK! This is one of my top favorite books for this year. I finished this novel and had to go fetal from all the emotions that were running through my mind. So much amaze balls of WTF! was going on in this book that I'm still trying to process it all and I'm not only sad that the book is finished but I desperatly need to know what happens next, like .... RIGHT NOW! Why? do you ask...well let me begin.

The story introduces us to two new characters, Hannah, the slightly spoiled daughter of the commander and her drug dealer/other side of the space tracks member, Nik. Now don't get your underwear all twisted because you don't see me mention Kady and Ezra. It's all chill my friends, because Hannah and Nik will completely capture your attention. They simply jump off the page and into your hearts and you will find yourself drawn into Gemina as quickly and thoroughly as in Illuminae.  Jay and Amie do a fantastic job of just giving you enough and then adding these fascinating layers to each of these characters. Like how Hannah is not just a pampered princess (although Nik might disagree) but a kick ass fighter that learned everything she knows from her dad and can stratagize her way out of any situation and how Nik is not as sly as he would like the world to see him, that he actually has a kind heart and is loyal to a fault. Complete opposites, right? Well their banter is one of my favorite things about this book and I could not get enough.

Donnelly, H: Hey, peon.

Guest423: Lo, the Princess.

Donnelly, H. Aha, You're there.
Donnelly, H: Thought you might be off skulking somewhere in the depths.

Guest 423: Who says I'm not? I'm skulking like a mother**** in here.
Guest 423: Do is this a social call?

Donnelly, H: That's so sweet, the way you hold out hope one day I'm going to call you up just to hear the sound of your voice.

Guest 423: To drea the impossible dream. This is my quest.
 (So funny)
(author Marie Lu also drew a few illustrations for Gemina)

Even with the banter that made me go all melty inside the entire story as a whole made me go fetal, because my poor heart was pounding, pounding, pounding for most of the amazing pages of this book. My emotions are thrown all over the place with no time to recover before another plot twist comes into play leaving me stunned. This story just keeps getting better and better.  And there are many pages to keep you entertained for a bit,  Close to 700 but don't let that intimidate you because although it seems like a lot of pages, most are often diagrams or arranged as messages, emails, transcripts, diagrams and interviews. And believe me when I saw it is all fascinating. I love how it is all put together.

I truly would love to talk about this book into great detail but it would ruin it for those that have not read it. Believe me when I tell you that you that if you liked Illuminae that you will LOVE GEMINA even more. It moves at a much brisker pace and just when you think you have got it all figured out you get thrown for such a loop that you cannot believe what is going on before your very eyes. Brace yourself my friends and go along for the ride of your life and don't forget to bring some tissue for you will need it.

GEMINA (The Illuminae Files, #2) by Amie Kaufman, Jay Kristoff
Published by Knopf Books for Young Readers on October 18th 2016
Format: Audiobook & Book
Series: The Illuminae Files #2
Source: Purchased
Where to Buy:

The highly anticipated sequel to the instant New York Times bestseller that critics are calling “out-of-this-world awesome.”
Moving to a space station at the edge of the galaxy was always going to be the death of Hanna’s social life. Nobody said it might actually get her killed.

The sci-fi saga that began with the breakout bestseller Illuminae continues on board the Jump Station Heimdall, where two new characters will confront the next wave of the BeiTech assault.

Hanna is the station captain’s pampered daughter; Nik the reluctant member of a notorious crime family. But while the pair are struggling with the realities of life aboard the galaxy’s most boring space station, little do they know that Kady Grant and the Hypatia are headed right toward Heimdall, carrying news of the Kerenza invasion.

When an elite BeiTech strike team invades the station, Hanna and Nik are thrown together to defend their home. But alien predators are picking off the station residents one by one, and a malfunction in the station’s wormhole means the space-time continuum might be ripped in two before dinner. Soon Hanna and Nik aren’t just fighting for their own survival; the fate of everyone on the Hypatia—and possibly the known universe—is in their hands.

But relax. They’ve totally got this. They hope.

Once again told through a compelling dossier of emails, IMs, classified files, transcripts, and schematics, Gemina raises the stakes of the Illuminae Files, hurling readers into an enthralling new story that will leave them breathless.

  1. Lol Marie Lu's drawings are SO GREAT. Banter is my favorite thing with characters. <3 Thank you for the giveaway

  2. What I love best are the characters. And then there's the world, the action. These books have it all!

  3. I haven't read the series yet, so what I love most are the great reviews. Thanks!

  4. AHHHH I loved Illuminae so damn much! I haven't yet read Gemina! Actually I got my signed Illuminae from California (so it would be fitting if Gemina came from there too! teehee) My bestie went to the signing at Mysterious Galaxy in San Diego, but she couldn't go this year since she has a newborn mini-her. I loved every damn thing about this book and I can't wait till I can consume Gemina!

  5. What I liked the most was the visual look to the book. Turning the pages to see how the next page would be typographically set and how it enhanced the plot was so interesting.

    1. It's true...The typography is part of the storytelling!

  6. This would be a great book to win! Very intriguing!

  7. I love the writing and characters--they pull me right into the story :)

  8. I think the characters are wonderful and I really enjoy these two great writers working together. Thanks for the chance to win.

  9. I think the thing I love most about it is the way the story is told! I mean, obviously I love the main characters, and the overall story. But I'd never read a book written this way. It's so unique!

    1. Have you read Sleeping Giants? It's similarly told!

  10. I haven't read any of the books yet but am really hoping to. They sound great!

  11. The unique aspect of how it is written. I didn't think I could read it but I absolutely fell in love with this series.

  12. I love the unique format of the book and the crazy story!

  13. I love how unique this story is and the format it's told in! I feel like I need to read it twice to fully grasp and understand everything haha, but I love it so I don't mind!!

    1. It's like a good read it once for the story and again for everything you missed!

  14. I adore the unique writing style and the beautiful cover!

  15. I love all the mixed media in this book. I'm always a sucker for that. It's such a great reading experience.

  16. I think, my favorite character that wasn't even in the book was Babushka Nika. A lady after my own heart. Illuminae left me a wreck, but Gemina left me a wrecking mess.

    1. At least we just have ONE book to go...Until their next series.
