Make that EVENT tour! |
Tahereh Mafi visits Kepler's for a conversation with hubs, Ransom Riggs...And we all die of adorableness.
The YA OTP duo stopped by the Bay Area on Thursday night for an evening filled with color, giggles, and a whole lot of "aww-ing" over these two. To kick off the evening, Ransom shared his excitement over the release of Furthermore, a book he watched go from concept to reality, with its beautiful embossed cover and quirky storytelling. "I want to try to explain and try to capture how excited I am!" Ransom shared, "I am finally happy that other people can see my joy."
The world of Furthermore represents the "HD Technicolor world that I had sort of stepped into in my heart and my mind" when falling in love with Ransom, Tahereh tells us. Color is the currency and those who have color have magic. Writing Furthermore was an endless amount of joy for Tahereh. "I could see this character, this whirling dervish from above, and I wanted to know why she was so happy, and why she couldn't stop dancing." Written from the narrated point of view of a "crotchety old man", Furthermore is a story of self discovery, uniqueness, and accepting yourself.
Ransom totally outed Tahereh's fear of spiders with a recent story involving a homemade latte, full hands, and the wrecked home of an arachnid. While walking out to her car and staring at her phone, Tahereh ran into a spider web. "There was this HUGE spider web, big, connected to two trees! I walk right.into.it and it wraps around my face! I was just wearing a net of spider web on my face. I wanted to die!" Tahereh shares, horrified.
For those of you waiting for the upcoming Shatter Me TV series, Tahereh is positive about it (albeit slow) and shared that the script is being written. Ransom shared about his experience waiting for Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children and the two commiserated about the waiting.
The OTP Tour continues on (including LOOP DAY here today in the Bay Area...Catch us at Books, Inc at 2pm today) so be sure to catch Tahereh and Ransom at an event near you. Kepler's also has signed copies of all of their books that you can have mailed to you!

.@TaherehMafi wrote #Furthermore when she had first fallen in love with @ransomriggs and the world represents that indescribable emotion.— Christy Jane (@diamondxgirl) September 2, 2016

If you didn't know, Furthermore will have a companion novel set in a neighboring world - and the main character's job is to wash the bodies of the dead. The upcoming novel is set in the winter, where it's cold and dark...and a bit grimm. Keep your eyes peeled in 2018..@TaherehMafi named the main character in #Furthermore after designer Alexander McQueen— Christy Jane (@diamondxgirl) September 2, 2016
