Event Recap: MY LADY JANE & Giveaway!!

#LadyJanies - June 8th, 2016

The Lady Janies graced us with their presence in a night of alt-history, humor, and hats.

For Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows, it was a match made in Heaven - or at least on a tour stop. "We started talking about what that story might look like, who the characters might be, and how we might create this world," Cynthia told the crowd. From there, each author took a different perspective, with Jodi writing Jane, Cynthia writing Edward (the King), and Brodi writing Gifford (a horse, which makes a lot more sense when you read the book!). What was clear to them was that Brodi should write the funniest character. "She's the funniest!" Jodi and Cynthia exclaimed.

On a day when Jodi was supposed to take her first trip to Disneyland, the three decided to scrap their plans and start writing My Lady Jane. "The hardest part of writing this book together was finding the time to work together," Cynthia shared with the crowd. The trio found that the peer pressure and collaboration opportunities were equally valuable in getting through a chapter each day. Every evening, they would read their chapters aloud and laugh through the editing process. As they read aloud to the audience, we laughed, too.

The Lady Janies visited England and the places where Lady Jane lived. "We oo'd and ahh'd over Jane and Edward's love story and people thought we were crazy," Brodi shared, "The guide told us they weren't in love but THEY WERE. He carved her name in a wall - twice!"

You can find our review for My Lady Jane right here. We highly suggest the audiobook. Be sure to check out the giveaway at the end of this post! And if you're curious what animal you would be if you were an Edian (the shapeshifters in the book), you can take a quiz hereCome back and tell us in the comments which animal you got and if you agree!

  1. If I was a Royal, I would be Mary Queen of Scots! Even though she met her demise, she was pretty badass.

  2. @ Taylor she WAS pretty awesome!

  3. I don't think life as a royal would suit me at all. There's too much formality, structure and scrutiny. I much prefer my freedom and anonymity. Maybe I'd be Edward VIII and abdicate the throne.

  4. Well, it's probably safer to be a modern day royal, but I bet it's not all it's cracked up to be. Maybe I could be Fergie, formerly royal, on the periphery.

  5. While I know the tv show Reign isn't 100% historically accurate, I gotta go with Mary, Queen of Scots!

  10. Elizabeth, she was strong and fierce. She was everything she had to be as a women in that day especially since so many would have loved nothing more than for a man to take her role.

  11. Took the quiz and got Lion:

Ferocious? Check. Regal? Check. You are a powerful person who knows how to get what they want. Look out, enemies! Just like King Henry VIII in MY LADY JANE, you are animal twins with a true king of the jungle. Just, don't behead people that disagree with you. That's a huge turn-off.

But Henry the 8th is an asshole :(((
