Seventeen-year-old Twylla lives in the castle. But although she’s engaged to the prince, Twylla isn’t exactly a member of the court.

She’s the executioner.

As the Goddess embodied, Twylla instantly kills anyone she touches. Each month she’s taken to the prison and forced to lay her hands on those accused of treason. No one will ever love a girl with murder in her veins. Even the prince, whose royal blood supposedly makes him immune to Twylla’s fatal touch, avoids her company.

But then a new guard arrives, a boy whose easy smile belies his deadly swordsmanship. And unlike the others, he’s able to look past Twylla’s executioner robes and see the girl, not the Goddess. Yet Twylla’s been promised to the prince, and knows what happens to people who cross the queen.

However, a treasonous secret is the least of Twylla’s problems. The queen has a plan to destroy her enemies, a plan that requires a stomach-churning, unthinkable sacrifice. Will Twylla do what it takes to protect her kingdom? Or will she abandon her duty in favor of a doomed love?

My Thoughts:

It has been a long while since a story has held my attention such as THE SIN EATER'S DAUGHTER by Melinda Salisbury. It is a unique and beautifully descriptive tale with the right amount of twisted to completely intrigue you.

"Even when there are no prisoners, I can still hear the screams. They live in the walls like ghosts and echo between footsteps."

With an introduction like that one how could I not become instantly hooked? I know that my interest well piqued and by the time I finished the first chapter I did not want to stop reading. The world that Melinda had created was well defined and wholly original world without being information "dump" heavy. Hallelujah! This is something I cannot begin to say that I appreciate more than anything else. Thank you!

Twylla is a captivating character. She is born a sin eater's daughter but becomes the court's assassin, killing on behalf of her Kingdom and crown with a single touch. The weight of the dead surround her young shoulders, and despite the reality of what she is ordered to accomplish she does not relish the power she wields for it comes at a steep price. Lonliness. Those in court avoid her, her betrothed Prince doesn't even look her way and her personal guards won't get anywhere near her. Then a new guard comes to her charge and her confined world slowly begins to unravel and with this development comes secrets and lies that reveal a horrible truth that even I was not prepared to witness. Eeeep!!! Never underestimate the depths of which this sovereign will go to attain absolute power.

The Sin Eater's Daughter is a spellbinding read with unimaginable twists and turns that will blow you away. The world that Melinda has created is consuming and brilliant especially the detail that is given to the sin eater's menu. Like WOW!  I was completely taken in by it. I even enjoyed the "love triangle" that is commonplace in most reads with a romantic edge,  but I liked it I really did and I am intrigued to find out who you like best. Lief or Merek?  I would tell you my favorite but I would not want to influence your read. But what I can say is READ. THIS. BOOK. It will not disappoint those that love a good fantasy read centered in a world that is unique and wicked good with a bit of romance and lots of intrigue.

  1. I loved this too. I'm currently reading The Sleeping Prince and I'm loving it but since I'm playing catch-up with my studies, I can't really read as much as I would like theses days.
It's really good so far even thought there are new characters.
