GOLD by Talia Vance Blog Tour: Favorite Quotes and Giveaway

Today I am super excited to be a host on the GOLD BLOG TOUR. I am a fan and supporter of local author Talia Vance and cannot wait for everyone to read her newest novel in her Bandia series, titled GOLD.  I adore book quote and am known to mark pages in books to keep my favorite quotes on hand and lucky for us, Talia is going to share with us some of her favorite quotes.

FAVORITE QUOTES from Talia Vance

Whenever I do a favorite quotes post, it’s always with the caveat that what I love as a writer may be vastly different than the things that resonate with readers.  Sometimes a particular passage is meaningful to me because it was the moment that I discovered something about the character or the story that I didn’t know.  Sometime it’s just because I was having fun when I wrote it.  Some of my favorite quotes involve spoilers, but I haven’t included those, so these aren’t all my favorite quotes.

So, without further ado, I give you my favorite quotes from GOLD.

[Austin’s] breath comes harder as his hand works its way up my calf to the bare skin of my thigh.  “Do you want me to make you forget him?”

I really felt for Austin in this scene.  Brianna thinks she’s offering Austin something he wants, but he never wanted to be second to Blake, and in this moment he reveals both how much he wants her, and that he knows she is using him.  I love that he calls her on it, and holds out for something more.

But part of me understands how Austin could do the things he did.  I am as much a killer as he is.  I will fight for what I believe in.  Kill for it.

The killer in me understands him completely.

This is a pivotal moment for Brianna, as she starts to understand that she and Austin aren’t so very different.

“You believe in love at first sight?”

“No, of course not.  But it wasn’t the first time I saw you.  And there were times I had my doubts.  But fate will out.”

“Doubts?”

“Let’s see.  You set me up with your best friend.  Twice, I might add.  Then you let me nearly get killed by Jonah before you finally stepped in.  Oh, and there is the small matter of you falling in love with someone else.”

“Okay, I get it.”

“I’m not done.  You tried to kill me with those damn fireballs.  And when that didn’t work, you lured me to the gateway and banished me for a thousand years.”  His lips curve into that crooked smile.  “Perhaps I should rethink this.”

Okay, I admit it, I’m a little in love with Austin.  I love that he sees Brianna for everything she is, faults and all, but loves her unconditionally.

“I’m not afraid of you.”  I probably should be.  But I’m not.

“I didn’t say you were afraid of me.”  [Braden says].

“What am I afraid of then?”

“I only get the emotions, not necessarily the reasons behind them.  But if I had to guess I’d say you’re afraid of falling in love.”

“Not even close.  You’re not as good as I thought.”

“And that, right there is denial.”  He sniffs the air.  “Tastes like chicken.”

I laugh with him.  “You know for an evil killer, you’re kind of fun to hang out with.”

“I could say the same thing about you.”

This exchange between Braden and Brianna always makes me smile.  Brianna really needs a friend, and I love that she finds one in an unexpected place.

“Remembering and knowing are two different things.  Memories can’t always be trusted, colored as they are by perception and time.  Knowledge is something that lives in our hearts.  It is not so easily shaken.”

               “I don’t get it.”

Austin sets down his cup of tea and looks at me.  Right into me.  “I could be stripped of a thousand years of memories, and I would always know, in my heart, that I love you.”

Did I mention that I love Austin?  Sigh.

Mick walks into the kitchen where I’m fumbling with a complicated piece of machinery that’s supposed to be a coffee maker.  If a degree in mechanical engineering is a prerequisite to making a cup of coffee, it’s no wonder everyone here drinks tea.

He wears a dark gray suit today, with pinstripes and pants that taper in at the ankle.  He looks like a nineteenth century hipster.  All that’s missing are a pair of nerdy glasses.

“You settling in?” he asks.  At least he doesn’t comment on the pajama pants, oversized sweater and three pairs of knee socks that I’m trying to pass off as an outfit.

Mick is a new character, a giolla who has spent centuries looking after Austin.  I love the way he is so unabashedly traditional and reserved, but also completely accepting of Brianna.

Thank you, Talia. I adored all your quotes and it makes me want to re-read GOLD and if you haven't then you are missing out and I suggest you check this series out.
