Attack. Not isolated. Fate of Americans unknown.

Amy is watching TV when it happens, when the world is attacked by Them. These vile creatures are rapidly devouring mankind. Most of the population is overtaken, but Amy manages to survive—and even rescue “Baby,” a toddler she finds in an abandoned supermarket. Marooned in Amy’s house, the girls do everything they can to survive—and avoid Them at all costs.

After years of hiding, they are miraculously rescued and taken to New Hope, a colony of survivors living in a former government research compound. While at first the colony seems like a dream with plenty of food, safety, and shelter, New Hope slowly reveals that it is far from ideal. And Amy soon realizes that unless things change, she’ll lose Baby—and much more.

Rebellious, courageous, and tender, this unforgettable duo will have you on the edge of your seat as you tear through the pulse-pounding narrow escapes and horrifying twists of fate in this thrilling debut from author Demitria Lunetta.

My Thoughts:

When I initially picked up IN THE AFTER by Demitria Lunetta, I immediately put it back down because It seemed to have a Sci-Fi alien type of vibe that I am not a fan of. But, regardless of my feelings I was compelled to picked it back up. It was as if the universe was telling me not to be foolish and to read this book now, and I am so glad that I did.

As I began reading IN THE AFTER I was quickly drawn into the story and held captive there. It has been a while that I found a story so compelling and imperceptibly clear that I could easily relate to the narrator. The plot is frightening and I found myself timidly moving on through the pages, afraid of what I was going to find next. Yet, it was invigorating as I witnessed Amy manage her day to day life alone while being surrounded by flesh eating creatures. Soon Amy finds Baby, a surviving toddler and suddenly Amy is no longer alone. This is when I really begin to enjoy IN THE AFTER because this surviving duo prove to show courage, strength and love at a time when there is little left to hope for anymore. Then another survivor joins them and everything changes.

I will stop at this point because to go any further with details about the book would be highly spoilerish and I think this book is to be enjoyed for the surprise filled story that it is. I will say that the plot twists and big reveal is a big OMG and you will be left cursing certain characters out. Believe me, it will happen.  Yet, along side the cursing and disbelief will be cheering Amy and Baby on until the very last word.

IN THE AFTER is a great read filled with well written scary moments of atmospheric tension and fear along with a courageously brilliant lead character that you will not forget. This book is a perfect summer read, but be forewarned once you begin you will be immediately held prisoner to it's pages until the very end.

  5. Following Amy through this situation, Demitria makes the main character so realistic with the challenges she faces. You really learn to relate to her and fall in love with Baby. I won't give anything away but Amy is a really tough character the blossoms out of a normal carefree girl in an impossible situation. I love how she takes control of her life multiple times.
