Would you live through the ultimate test of survival?

The city of Kersh is a safe haven, but the price of safety is high. Everyone has a genetic Alternate—a twin raised by another family—and citizens must prove their worth by eliminating their Alts before their twentieth birthday. Survival means advanced schooling, a good job, marriage—life.

Fifteen-year-old West Grayer has trained as a fighter, preparing for the day when her assignment arrives and she will have one month to hunt down and kill her Alt. But then a tragic misstep shakes West's confidence. Stricken with grief and guilt, she's no longer certain that she's the best version of herself, the version worthy of a future. If she is to have any chance of winning, she must stop running not only from her Alt, but also from love . . . though both have the power to destroy her.

Elsie Chapman's suspenseful debut weaves unexpected romance into a novel full of fast-paced action and thought-provoking philosophy. When the story ends, discussions will begin about this future society where every adult is a murderer and every child knows there is another out there who just might be better.

My Thoughts:

DUALED by Elise Chapman had been on my wish list for a long while and when I received a copy to read I was beside myself with joy because the concept of this story was unique and compelling.  The very idea that one would have to prove their worth and kill their laboratory created doppelganger or be killed before their twentieth birthday was too intriguingly wicked to pass up.

This first chapter in DUALED was absolutely riveting and I went through a myriad of emotions as I could not wait to further delve into this storyline that was original, action-packed and suspenseful in equal measure. West Grayer is this novel's heroine,  strong willed and devoted, then in one instant she makes a critical error that changes everything. It is at this point that I began to get a little lost within this story, because it veered in a direction that I did not see coming. Just when I was beginning to relate to West she then makes a startling choice that I cannot seem to understand. Yet, her journey kept me intrigued.

Elsie Chapman has created a thought provoking thriller that is unique, gritty and oh so terrifying. DUALED is a story that you will not soon forget for the concept of everyone in that society being forced to become a murderer is wicked insane. There is also a great amount of action and the right amount of romantic tension that will keep you wholly engaged. If you are looking for a read entertain and challenge you then you need not look any further. DUALED is your next read.

“Reading is everything. Reading makes me feel like I've accomplished something, learned something, become a better person. Reading makes me smarter. Reading gives me something to talk about later on. Reading is the unbelievably healthy way my attention deficit disorder medicates itself. Reading is escape, and the opposite of escape; it's a way to make contact with reality after a day of making things up, and it's a way of making contact with someone else's imagination after a day that's all too real. Reading is grist. Reading is bliss.”
