Aries, Clementine, Mason and Michael have survived the first wave of the apocalypse that wiped out most of the world's population, and turned many of the rest into murderous Baggers. Now, they're hiding out in an abandoned house in Vancouver with a ragtag group of surviving teens, and trying to figure out their next move.

Aries is trying to lead, but it's hard to be a leader when there are no easy answers, and every move feels wrong. Clementine is desperate to find her brother Heath, but it's impossible to know where he'd be, even if he is still alive. Michael is still haunted by the memories of his actions during his harrowing struggle to survive. And Mason is struggling with something far worse: the fear that he may be a danger to his friends.

As the Baggers begin to create a new world order, Aries, Clementine, Mason and Michael will have to trust and rely on each other in order to survive.

One girl is determined to find the truth and avenge the dead.
It was like a nightmare, but there was no waking up. When the night began, Nora had two best friends and an embarrassingly storybook one true love. When it ended, she had nothing but blood on her hands and an echoing scream that stopped only when the tranquilizers pierced her veins and left her in the merciful dark.

But the next morning, it was all still true: Chris was dead. His girlfriend Adriane, Nora's best friend, was catatonic. And Max, Nora's sweet, smart, soft-spoken Prince Charming, was gone. He was also--according to the police, according to her parents, according to everyone--a murderer.

Desperate to prove his innocence, Nora follows the trail of blood, no matter where it leads. It ultimately brings her to the ancient streets of Prague, where she is drawn into a dark web of secret societies and shadowy conspirators, all driven by a mad desire to possess something that might not even exist. For buried in a centuries-old manuscript is the secret to ultimate knowledge and communion with the divine; it is said that he who controls the Lumen Dei controls the world. Unbeknownst to her, Nora now holds the crucial key to unlocking its secrets. Her night of blood is just one piece in a puzzle that spans continents and centuries. Solving it may be the only way she can save her own life.

Now Jane returns to the war-torn country to help a fey-cursed child. But her blossoming crush is stifled by her own scars, and by his parade of women. Ugly women, who enter his closed studio -- and come out as beautiful as the fey.

Jane knows he cannot love her, just as she knows that she must wear iron for the rest of her life. But what if neither of these things are true? Step by step Jane must unlock the secrets of her new life -- and discover just how far she will go to become whole again.

I know that I can't wait for The Hunger Games and I know I am not the only one. In the mean time there are a few books to keep us satisfied with great dystopian alternatives.

JAMES DASHNER became an overnight sensation with the 2009 publication of The Maze Runner, the first book in the Maze Runner series. A novel about a group of boys dropped into a maze and forced to work together to survive the challenges of their isolated world, while recalling nothing from their past lives struck a chord with both teenage and adult readers. The book landed on numerous state award lists, and was also optioned for film by 20th Century Fox. The series is often compared to The Hunger Games, and has spent over 40 weeks on The New York Times bestseller list. The subsequent books in the series, The Scorch Trials and The Death Cure had an even larger following, and firmly established Dashner as a favorite amongst readers. The fourth book in the series, a prequel novel entitled The Kill Order, will debut this August. The series has sold over a million copies.

LISSA PRICE’s Starters (On sale March 13, 2012), is the first in a high-concept, two-book, futuristic thriller by a tremendous bestselling author in the making. Starters is a total thrill ride, smashing clichés and creating a character-driven pulse-pounding read that will be one of the most talked about books for teens in 2012. Sixteen-year-old Callie lost her parents when the genocide spore wiped out everyone except those who were vaccinated first—the very young and very old. But with no grandparents to claim them, she and her little brother have been forced to live their lives on the dangerous streets. Hope comes via Prime Destinations, a corporation that hires teens to rent their bodies to seniors, known as Enders, who get to be young again. Lured by the offer of a better life for her and her brother, Callie signs on with the corporation. But what happens when Callie’s renter intends to use her body to commit murder? And how is she aware of what is happening to her? Evil lurks at every corner in this unforgettable new novel, with a second book coming in December. Three ebook original shorts will also be released to tie-in to Callie’s story. The first, Portrait of a Starter, releases on February 14th.

Colby and Bev have a long-standing pact: graduate, hit the road with Bev's band, and then spend the year wandering around Europe. But moments after the tour kicks off, Bev makes a shocking announcement: she's abandoning their plans - and Colby - to start college in the fall.

But the show must go on and The Disenchantments weave through the Pacific Northwest, playing in small towns and dingy venues, while roadie- Colby struggles to deal with Bev's already-growing distance and the most important question of all: what's next?

Morris Award–finalist Nina LaCour draws together the beauty and influences of music and art to brilliantly capture a group of friends on the brink of the rest of their lives.

My Thoughts:

Upon learning that local bay area author, Nina LaCour was penning another contemporary novel I was beyond excited. Nina's Hold Still was an amazingly moving novel that still remains one of my favorite contemporary reads and now she has written THE DISENCHANTMENTS. A novel about a less than fabulous girl band going on tour, narrated from the perspective of Colby, their lone male roadie whom is facing some pivotal changes.

THE DISENCHANTMENTS is a touring road trip story but as soon as I began reading it, I knew it was going to be so much more. What actually started off as four close friends going on an adventure turns into a novel of deeper emotions one of self discovery, friendships and the choices that shape their lives and you will enjoy every moment that you are a witness of.

I must say that originally I was not a fan of the male perspective in my reading repertoire, but over the last few years some novels have change my mind about that. THE DISCENCHANTMENTS is one of those very novels. Colby is not what you consider the typical guy in fact he is embodies both the classic and uncommon traits that make you want to hug and smack him at the same time. I adore him to bits and love to see his character evolve and grow throughout the process of this book. He is by far my favorite character, but Bev follows close behind. Initially I did not find it easy to relate to her and her choices but I know that with your life ahead of you sometimes the least popular choice is hard to follow. The other cast of characters are not to be forgotten, everyone makes an impression and you cannot help but want to see them all succeed and know what happens to them down the road. I also enjoy the soundtrack that seems to always run in the back of my mind as I was reading this story, a testament to Nina's ability at creating a story with the perfect atmosphere.

THE DISENCHANTMENTS is a great novel that showcases the possibility of change, growth and how we all matter to one another. Our choices are ours to make regardless of outside influences and if we remain true to ourselves we will find what we are looking for. An endearing story that everyone can enjoy.

Everybody knows Cate Cahill and her sisters are eccentric. Too pretty, too reclusive, and far too educated for their own good. But the truth is even worse: they're witches. And if their secret is discovered by the priests of the Brotherhood, it would mean an asylum, a prison ship - or an early grave.

Before her mother died, Cate promised to protect her sisters. But with only six months left to choose between marriage and the Sisterhood, she might not be able to keep her word . . . especially after she finds her mother's diary, uncovering a secret that could spell her family's destruction. Desperate to find alternatives to their fate, Cate starts scouring banned books and questioning rebellious new friends, all while juggling tea parties, shocking marriage proposals, and a forbidden romance with the completely unsuitable Finn Belastra.

If what her mother wrote is true, the Cahill girls aren't safe. Not from the Brotherhood, the Sisterhood - not even from each other.

My Thoughts:

When BORN WICKED first caught my attention I was mesmerized by it's stunningly sumptuous book jacket, then as I read the back cover I knew that this was a book that I would adore. Needless to say, I was not disappointed in the least.

Jessica Spotswood had created a world of magic, mystery and romance that will keep you entranced and voraciously reading until it's very last word, for she has created a spellbinding and intriguing story that you cannot help but treasure.

BORN WICKED centers on a trio of sisters that are also witches in a time when even breathing the word magic could result in certain banishment and possible death. Cate Cahill is the eldest of this enchanted trio who trying her best to fulfill her mother's wishes by keeping her sisters safe. Then she locates her mother's diary and finds a frightening prophecy that does not allow her to trust anyone. What is Cate going to decide about their futures while trying to understand that she may be the most powerful witch of all time. What is a girl to do?

Wow! what an amazing read. I truly enjoyed BORN WICKED and the world that Jessica Spotswood has created. While the subject of witches is not vogue or original, the storyline that she has penned is captivating and it's characters are appealing. I was thoroughly invested with these sisters and I wanted to see them thrive and succeed. It is also great to witness characters that you can adore and hate in equal measure. It is never easy to be the bad "guy" in a book but if it that character is well written you cannot help but see RED when you think of them. Besides having moments of grrrrr...frustration I also appreciated the romance that was entwined within this storyline and it gives me a whole new appreciation for feathers.

Another aspect that I acknowledge about this story was the element of mystery and slow building suspense that built to a nail biting crescendo. Not knowing whom to trust and what confidences would turn bad made it such a worthy read. I am sure readers teen and adult alike will enjoy this story and be left begging for more. I know I am.

The second book in The Chemical Garden Trilogy reveals a world as captivating—and as dangerous—as the one Rhine left behind in Wither. Rhine and Gabriel may have escaped the beautiful prison of Wither’s mansion, but they are far from escaping danger. First they’re chased for stealing a getaway boat, and then the fleeing pair ends up in the eerie den of Madame, an old woman who collects girls and sells them to the highest bidders. Worst of all, Vaughn, Rhine’s sinister father-in-law, seems to be on her trail every step of the way. Rhine remains determined to get to her brother in Manhattan—but the road they are on is long and perilous.

Now that Rhine has finally regained her freedom, what lengths will she need to go to in order to keep it?

My Thoughts

FEVER by Lauren Destefano was a much anticipated novel for me because I enjoyed reading it's predecessor, WITHER and was very intrigued on how this new storyline would play out. Although I anticipated a few plot points, on a whole it was not what I expected.

Upon returning to the bleak world that Rhine and Gabriel inhabit we find them on the run, fleeing a madman that is hell bent on cruel experimentation. Unfortunately they do not enjoy their freedom for long before they are held prisoners in a different kind of torture of which Rhine becomes a feature attraction. They barely escape with another in tow and travel up to Manhattan but the journey is long and they encounter a few hardships along the way but nothing prepares Rhine for what awaits her back home.

When I read WITHER I was drawn to it's heroine Rhine, and her storyline. I admired her spirit and drive to escape her captors and return to the free world and find her brother. I am scarcely into a few pages of FEVER and Rhine quickly becomes ensnared in a fresh kind of hell that is brutal and sexually driven. This new place reminds me of some perverse carnival of the flesh, filled with withered and broken girls, illicit drugs and nightmares. Although this new situation is uncomfortable to read about I do find Madame, the flesh carnival's keeper, to command the pages that she inhabits because she is a
ridiculously excessive character that is a perverse shell of a human whom is cunning and crazed by the ghosts in her past. Yet, despite my fascination with her I was eager to leave that place and move on. It is their first of many harrowing moments on their travels but they seem to manage despite their bleak circumstances.

As I witnessed Rhine and Gabriel on their arduous mission to find Rhine's brother I had hoped that their relationship would grow stronger. The frail bond between Rhine and Gabriel is constantly tested by the strain of their situation; Gabriel is dealing with his own personal demons while Rhine seems to drown in memories of her past. While I could tolerate her recollections of her life with her brother I could not stomach her nostalgia of being with Linden and her sister wives. If she was so eager to leave that hellish situation why did she have so many fond memories of it and of Linden? Why didn't she take off her wedding band? Of all the things she does, that fact I find the most off and incomprehensible.

Besides that issue there are several factors that initially threw me off. Some where explained as the story progressed, especially one that caused my head to ache, but at that point I did not care. I guess I became overwhelmed with Rhine's turmoil and delirium and was left dazed and confused. What I previously enjoyed about this series seemed to be lacking with this current novel, too much confusion and shock value situations seemed to prevail, weighing it down.

Despite my thoughts on this novel I enjoy Lauren's writing style for it is well detailed and poetic in nature and the world that she has created is imaginatively original. I just cannot say with certainty if I will return to finish this series.

Sneak a Peek Saturday is a feature that I like to indulge in because I cannot wait to read the tasty tid bits that are put out there for us ravenous readers to enjoy.

This week I have selected THE NIGHT SHE DISAPPEARED because I find it to be one of the most anticipated reads for me. Once I read the first chapter I knew I that this book is going to be amazing.

On USA today it was formally announced that Paranormal Romance author Kresley Cole is writing a YA series for Simon and Schuster. You can read that article HERE.

Poison Princess centers on 16-year-old Evangeline "Evie" Greene, a privileged teenager from Louisiana. When an apocalyptic event decimates her hometown, killing everyone she loves, Evie realizes the hallucinations she'd been having for the past year were actually visions of the future — and they're still happening. Fighting for her life and desperate for answers, she must turn to her wrong-side-of-the-bayou classmate: Jack Deveaux. As Jack and Evie race to find the source of her visions, they meet others who have gotten the same call. An ancient prophecy is being played out, and Evie is not the only one with special powers. A group of teens have been chosen to re-enact the ultimate

battle between good and evil. But it's not always clear who is on which side …

ZOMG!! talk about an amazing author writing a wicked cool book. I adore Kesley Cole and have read many of her Paranormal books and I have enjoyed them all. It will be interesting to see what she has created for the YA genre. What do you think? Have you read any of her novels? If so would you venture into this new world that she ahs created?

Why be the sheep, when you can be the wolf?
Seventeen-year-old Ismae escapes from the brutality of an arranged marriage into the sanctuary of the convent of St. Mortain, where the sisters still serve the gods of old. Here she learns that the god of Death Himself has blessed her with dangerous gifts—and a violent destiny. If she chooses to stay at the convent, she will be trained as an assassin and serve as a handmaiden to Death. To claim her new life, she must destroy the lives of others.
Ismae’s most important assignment takes her straight into the high court of Brittany—where she finds herself woefully under prepared—not only for the deadly games of intrigue and treason, but for the impossible choices she must make. For how can she deliver Death’s vengeance upon a target who, against her will, has stolen her heart?
My Thoughts:

When I was first introduced to GRAVE MERCY by Rovin LaFevers I was completely taken in by it's jaw dropping premise: Teen female assassins, political intrigue, mystery and romance. Wow! that is a story that I want to read and become lost within it's pages.

The main character of GRAVE MERCY is Ismae, a teen that has led a rough life led by the back of her father's hand and cruel temper. When she is old enough her father sells her off to marriage she soon realizes that her father is not the only one with cruel intentions. Yet, she is saved from her dire situation when she is offered a new life at St. Mortain. Within those walls of the convent she is trained to become an assassin, an instrument of death that will stop at nothing until her mission is completed. Ismae has yet to graduate from training when she is called upon infiltrate the royal court to save the young queen from impending destruction. She is the handmaiden of death but unprepared for the callousness of court, and while trying to decide whom is friend or foe Ismae finds her heart traitorously longing for someone she does not think she can trust.

I am more than overjoyed at how amazing GRAVE MERCY is and how much I enjoyed reading it. Robin LeFevers has created a world that while cruel and unique is filled with political intrigue, mystery and a slow building romance that is a welcome relief. Ismae, is a well fleshed out character that has much depth and emotion and you come to understand and support her. I also have a soft spot for Duval because he was such a noble character and his interactions with Ismae were always a welcome respite amongst the backdrop of mystery and death.

The concept that Robin LaFevers has brought to life with this book, I believe to be an amalgamation of La Femme Nikita and Game of Thrones and it is well presented and detailed. I recognized the research and work that has gone into this book and I truly appreciate it. What I also welcomed about this story is that it is written in modern English and not old English. I personally found it easier to digest and less intimidating.

GRAVE MERCY is well worth your time, and has everything you could as for in an entertaining read. You will not regret one moment enveloped in this story and will only be left begging for more. I know I cannot wait for the next installment and regret that I have to wait a year before DARK TRIUMPH

As a little girl, Daisy Appleby was killed in a school bus crash. Moments after the accident, she was brought back to life.

A secret government agency has developed a drug called Revive that can bring people back from the dead, and Daisy Appleby, a test subject, has been Revived five times in fifteen years. Daisy takes extraordinary risks, knowing that she can beat death, but each new death also means a new name, a new city, and a new life. When she meets Matt McKean, Daisy begins to question the moral implications of Revive, and as she discovers the agency’s true goals, she realizes she’s at the center of something much larger — and more sinister — than she ever imagined.

“Reading is everything. Reading makes me feel like I've accomplished something, learned something, become a better person. Reading makes me smarter. Reading gives me something to talk about later on. Reading is the unbelievably healthy way my attention deficit disorder medicates itself. Reading is escape, and the opposite of escape; it's a way to make contact with reality after a day of making things up, and it's a way of making contact with someone else's imagination after a day that's all too real. Reading is grist. Reading is bliss.”
