A romantic sci-fi thriller about love and second chances.

Camden Pike has been grief-stricken since his girlfriend, Viv, died. Viv was the last good thing in his life: helping him rebuild his identity after a career-ending football injury, picking up the pieces when his home life shattered, and healing his pain long after the pain meds wore off. And now, he’d give anything for one more glimpse of her. But when Cam makes a visit to the site of Viv’s deadly car accident, he sees some kind of apparition. And it isn’t Viv.

The apparition’s name is Nina, and she’s not a ghost. She’s a girl from a parallel world, and in this world, Viv is still alive. Cam can’t believe his wildest dreams have come true. All he can focus on is getting his girlfriend back, no matter the cost. But things are different in this other world: Viv and Cam have both made very different choices, things between them have changed in unexpected ways, and Viv isn’t the same girl he remembers. Nina is keeping some dangerous secrets, too, and the window between the worlds is shrinking every day. As Cam comes to terms with who this Viv has become, and the part Nina played in his parallel story, he’s forced to choose—stay with Viv or let her go—before the window closes between them once and for all.

My Thoughts:

I am always a sucker for romance and the idea that an alternate world could exist giving one the possibility of happiness after a tragedy seemed to good to pass up. THROUGH TO YOU is just that read, a love story with a sci-fi twist surely to make you think about the power of love and the things that we wish for.

Being curious by it's premise I picked up THROUGH TO YOU and quickly became intrigued by it's storyline and main character.  Camden Pike was an ordinary teen that had survived a tragic accident of which his beloved girlfriend Viv perished. Now, he is a former shell of himself, constantly wallowing in grief, the loner and the social pariah of his school. Yet, this current existence did not begin with his accident but by earlier events that made he and Viv reclusive outcasts. It is these facts and more that tether him to the site of that fateful car crash. Just as the synopsis indicates, Camden encounters an girl at the crash site that ultimately leads him to an alternate world of which his girlfriend Viv is alive and well. What happens next is not what I expected but I was pleased at how it made me think and re-evaluate the nature of Camden and Viv's relationship.

I enjoyed the concept of this novel because it did not fit into the customary mourningmydeadgirlfriend mold. The alternate world scenario has enough of an edge that it kept me suspended on tender hooks awaiting what could possibly happen next. As the story continues Camden continually visit the alternate world as he tries to come to grips with seeing his girlfriend again while also trying to rationalize the relationship he has with with alternate world Nina. Throughout this process he begins to change his outlook on his current status and realizes that things were not as they seemed and as the entrance into this alternate world begins to diminish it becomes painfully apparent that he will have to make a choice.

THROUGH TO YOU was unlike anything I have read before and while I found it initially a bit disconcerting I found that with time I began to like this story more and more. It made me think of how in death we might idealize our loved ones to a distorted edge. This book is quickly paced read while keeping you riveted until the very last page.
