She won’t rest until she’s sent every walking corpse back to its grave. Forever.

Had anyone told Alice Bell that her entire life would change course between one heartbeat and the next, she would have laughed. From blissful to tragic, innocent to ruined? Please. But that’s all it took. One heartbeat. A blink, a breath, a second, and everything she knew and loved was gone.

Her father was right. The monsters are real….

To avenge her family, Ali must learn to fight the undead. To survive, she must learn to trust the baddest of the bad boys, Cole Holland. But Cole has secrets of his own, and if Ali isn’t careful, those secrets might just prove to be more dangerous than the zombies….

My Thoughts:

I have been a fan of Gena Showalter for many years and I was most eager for her new Young Adult novel, ALICE in ZOMBIELAND. A novel with hints of Alice in Wonderland mixed with killer zombies, a wicked hot guy and a girl that knows what seeing white rabbit means.

ALICE in ZOMBIELAND begins innocent enough with Alice pleading with her parents to attend her sister's recital, an ordinary request anywhere else but not within the confines of her home. Her father is too scared of the creatures he alone believes exists and thus has always kept them at home after dark but on this one occasion he reluctantly relents and Alice will always regret that choice.

I wish I could go back and do a thousand things differently.
I'd tell my sister no.
I'd never beg my mother to talk to my dad.
I'd zip my lips and swallow those hateful words.
Or, barring all of that, I'd hug my sister, my mom and my dad one last time.
I'd tell them I love them.
I wish... Yeah, I wish

Now Alice is living with her grandparents. Staring a new school, having a new friend and corpse bride that likes to wander in her back yard. Then she sees the hottest boy she has ever seen and her whole world changes, but not necessarily for the better.

Holy Schmoly! Does this novel bring on the hotness! ALICE IN ZOMBIELAND by Gena Showalter has it all. Killer zombies that are pursued by a new league of zombie slayers that are lead by the wicked hot and smexy Cole Holland. Alice cannot resist Cole and whenever they lock eyes one one another....well let's just say...crazy stuff happens. It is all part of a well paced plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Just when you think you have things figured out Gena throws something else into the zombie mix and you will be left stunned, but ready for more. I appreciated the fact that she did not make Alice to be a simpering, wimpy character but she made her a kick ass girl that would not take "no" for an answer.

If you enjoy dark and twisted adventures that host a myriad of engaging characters while giving you some buffyesque fighting scenes then you need not look any further. ALICE IN ZOMBIELAND has it all and then some. Just beware of the white rabbit.

Favorite Moments:
"In and out I breathed--and caught the most disgusting scent ever. My nose wrinkled, and I grimaced. Honestly, If you stuck your head inside a dead horse's rectum, ou wouldn't smell anything close to this. (I haven't, by the way. I was only guessing there.) It was like rotten eggs mixed with dog farts and doused with skunk spray"

In a snap, there was only Cole, this moment, his mouth...his taste. Mint and cherries. His heat, enveloping me. His strength, surrounding me....

He must have lost track of everything but me, too, because the tone of the kiss changed from eager and curious to flat-out ravenous. he devoured me, and I did the same to him. My hands roamed over his back, my nails scraping at him....

This was consuming...drugging. He made me feel, without any kind of filter. For so long I'd wanted my life to be nothing more than a dream. Now, with emotions and sensations flooding me, I wanted this reality. And I wanted to stay in the safety and intensity of his arms. I wanted to give him everything. Here, now. Want, want, want. Want to touch him, more of him. Want his shirt off. I reached for the hem.

He reached for the hem of my shirt.

Then suddenly, Cole was gone.
