Mason Starling is a champion fencer for Gosforth Academy, but she’s never had to fight for her life. Until now. When a ferocious storm rips through Manhattan and unleashes terrifying creatures onto Gosforth’s campus, Mason barely escapes alive. Without help from the mysterious stranger who appeared in the midst of the storm, she might not have made it at all. But now, in the aftermath, Mason’s life begins to spin dramatically, mystically out of control, and the only one who seems able to help her is the stranger who can remember nothing but his name: Fennrys Wolf.

As Mason and Fenn uncover more about Fenn’s past and the strange events that surround them, they realize that Mason’s family — and its dark allegiance to the ancient Norse gods — is at the center of everything. A predetermined fate seems to be closing in on Mason, but is it possible to change one’s destiny?

My Thoughts:

Can I say that I am beyond ecstatic to have another Lesley Livingston book to read. STARLING is her newest book and it is a nonstop adventure interwoven with Nordic, Egyptian and Greek mythology while having a magikal touch of faerie to make everything just that more exciting.

As I began reading STARLING I had to grab on tight because this story hit the ground running and it was insane. In the past when I have read a story that brought forth evil zombies it's usually an isolated event, practically made for the main character's sole displeasure but not with this story. Mason Starling and her classmates encounter some mad, crazy zombies after a freak storm. It soon becomes apparent that they are overwhelmed and ill equipped to handle this unbelievable situation until a beautifully naked man shows up to save them all.  Once the dust settles Mason is on a mission to find this amazing savior and he feels the same for her, but their romance is ill fated, doomed before it ever had a chance. Yet, that is the least of Mason's problems because her world is suddenly going to change and not for the better.

I have been a fan of Lesley Livingston for a long time. She always has a canny way of creating situations, characters and a mysterious landscape that is just so amazing that you cannot help but marvel at it's genius. Lesley is the master of using faerie lore but this time she has chosen to interweave other myths to create a story line that is positively addicting and just when you think you know the outcome she comes in for the kill and totally pulls the rug from underneath your solidly planted feet and floors you. AHHHHHHH!!!

Besides hosting a new world that is intriguing, this story also hosts some of the most memorable and smexy characters that have ever had the pleasure of reading. Mason is tough yet vulnerable and her interactions with Fenn is the stuff that every girl dreams about. I cannot forget Cal because he does have a special place in my heart along with Heather, a gorgeous classmate that tells it like it is. It's no wonder that I could not stop reading STARLING and when I got to the final page I was left screaming in frustration, but you know what? I would gladly do it again.

Starling is a must read for those fans of Lesley Livingston. Full of adventure and charm this book is a must read for this year.

  1. I have Lesley's books on my shelf waiting to be read. I'm glad she's got a new one out that sounds so good! Thanks so much for the awesome review. Hopefully! I'll love it too. I'm not into the mixture of normadic, egptian and greek mythology in one book. (I had a bad experience). I hope I do like this one though. :D Thanks again!

  2. Just added this to my wishlist :) I've never read any of Lesley Livinston's books before but after reading that this is one for fans of the Mortal Instruments series, I knew I had to read it. Your review has only made me want to read it more! Thanks :)
