The Year is 2012 – and Queen Victoria still rules with an immortal fist.

She’s the undead matriarch of a Britain where the Aristocracy is made up of werewolves and vampires, where goblins live underground and mothers know better than to let their children out after dark. A world where technology lives side by side with magic, where being nobility means being infected with the Plague (side-effects include undeath) and Hysteria is the popular affliction of the day. Xandra Vardan is a member of the elite Royal Guard, and it’s her duty to protect the Aristocracy. But things get complicated when her sister goes missing. Xandra will not only realise she’s the prize in a dangerous power struggle – but she’ll also uncover a conspiracy that threatens to topple the empire itself.

My Thoughts:

WOW! Kate Locke has created a fun-freakin'-tastic steampunk world with GOD SAVE THE QUEEN. It is a story that is full of spine-tingling intrigue, witty dialogue and smexy characters that will have you glued to you seat and begging for more, please!

GOD SAVE THE QUEEN begins with Xandra Vardan, a halfie that works in Queen Victoria's royal guard and she is on a mission to locate her missing sister.  Unbeknownst to her, Xandra's quest soon uncovers a twisted conspiracy that threatens her very existence. Will she be able to emerge unscathed? You will have to read it and find out.

Can I say that I adored GOD SAVE THE QUEEN? (YES, I CAN) Kate Locke did an amazing job of creating a fresh and unique world that was mesmerizing to read about. From the very first sentence I was hooked, no lie-no joke, HOOKED and while the first few chapters may have seemed overwhelming with information in time I could clearly understand and envision this world that was presented before me.  I especially appreciated all the detail to fashion and the quirky vocabulary that accompanied this new world with perfect pairing.

Besides showcasing a fantastic new world, the cast of characters for GOD SAVE THE QUEEN are also spot on brilliant and I so wanted to be Xandra Vardan. She is that kick-ass kind of character that doesn't take crap from anyone and is willing to face her deepest fears to help the ones she loves. Along side Xandra are her memorable siblings and a very handsome were that is too grrrliciously smexy to resist.

Although GOD SAVE THE QUEEN is not listed as a Young Adult novel I believe that it is fine for the older teens. It is full of adventure, intrigue, fashion and passion. What is not to love?
