Two days before the start of her junior year, seventeen-year-old Janelle Tenner is hit by a pickup truck and killed—as in blinding light, scenes of her life flashing before her, and then nothing. Except the next thing she knows, she's opening her eyes to find Ben Michaels, a loner from her high school whom Janelle has never talked to, leaning over her. And even though it isn't possible, she knows—with every fiber of her being—that Ben has somehow brought her back to life.

But her revival, and Ben's possible role in it, is only the first of the puzzles that Janelle must solve. While snooping in her FBI agent father's files for clues about her accident, she uncovers a clock that seems to be counting down to something—but to what? And when someone close to Janelle is killed, she can no longer deny what's right in front of her: Everything that's happened—the accident, the murder, the countdown clock, Ben's sudden appearance in her life—points to the end of life as she knows it. And as the clock ticks down, she realizes that if she wants to put a stop to the end of the world, she's going to need to uncover Ben's secrets—and keep from falling in love with him in the process.

From debut author Elizabeth Norris comes this shattering novel of one girl's fight to save herself, her world, and the boy she never saw coming.

My Thoughts:

While trying to find a new novel to enjoy I found UNRAVELING by Elizabeth Norris. The cover seemed to have a sci-fi edge with a strong female lead (I know you're wondering how I came up with that idea, but I did) and because I am always seeking to expand my reading genre I decided to take a chance and was blown away.

It only took a few pages and I was totally taken in by this story. UNRAVELING centers on a strong willed and intelligent teen, Janelle Taylor. She is about to start her Junior year when a freak accident kills her....or does it? Because moments later she is alive and knows it is due to Ben Micheals, a boy she never has paid attention to until now (and that I don't get because he is wicked hot) but I digress.  Due to her father's connections Janelle finds information about the driver of the vehicle that "killed" her and the facts just don't add up. She soon realizes that she may be in over her head when other events seem to correlate with the information she knows and it includes a countdown that could mean the end of the world as we know it.

UNRAVELING has a storyline that is quite intriguing, filled with moments of nail biting tension that moves at a perfectly pitched pace. I found it to be quite unique while having a great balance of information that supports it's plot. I am generally not a great fan of sci-fi reads but I could not get enough of this novel and kept on reading until the very end. I had to know what would happen next. It's just that good.

Despite my adoration for the concept of this novel what I enjoyed most about this story is it's heroine, Janelle Taylor. She had a kick ass attitude,  backed up by wit and intelligence that was truly enjoyable to read. I could not wait to see what would happen next because she was ruthless in her mission to uncover the truth and I would be left holding my breath as she deftly maneuvered from one situation to another. Yet, dauntless as she was she could not have accomplished any of it without the amazing support team that she had surrounding her.

If you want to read a novel that will keep your interest from beginning to end and have you totally ensnared then UNRAVELING by Elizabeth Norris is the book for you. It has the best of everything from plot, pacing and character development that you could want in a read and you will not be disappointed.
