One choice can transform you—or it can destroy you. But every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves—and herself—while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love.

Tris's initiation day should have been marked by celebration and victory with her chosen faction; instead, the day ended with unspeakable horrors. War now looms as conflict between the factions and their ideologies grows. And in times of war, sides must be chosen, secrets will emerge, and choices will become even more irrevocable—and even more powerful. Transformed by her own decisions but also by haunting grief and guilt, radical new discoveries, and shifting relationships, Tris must fully embrace her Divergence, even if she does not know what she may lose by doing so.

My Thoughts:

In this Young Adult world of literature it is always exciting to find a novel that will surprise me to my core. Last year after I read DIVERGENT by Veronica Roth I knew that I witnessed a new literal voice that was simply brilliant, so it is no surprise that INSURGENT quickly became one of my most anticipated novels for 2012.

This novel quickly picks up shortly after DIVERGENT ends. Tris and her crew are trying to understand everything that happened the night of her initiation and the "manipulated" near annihilation of other factions. As they try to seek refuge and search for answers they only seem to get further away from the truth. Then the unthinkable occurs and they do not know whom to trust especially now that their choice can destroy them and those that they love.

This world and cast of memorable characters that Veronica Roth has created is fascinating to witness come to life on the page. Tris demonstrates strengths and weaknesses in a manner that makes me understand what she is striving for and although I might not agree with her all of her choices I support her decisions. I could only imagine all that she has to endure and it always astounds me at how resilient she is. Tobias aka FOUR is a force to be reckoned with, he feelings for Tris and the pride in his faction are all consuming and thrilling to witness. I could not get enough of seeing those two together *sigh* while apart they are destructive.

The writing in this novel is amazing if not better than it's predecessor for I was always left on my toes. I never knew what to expect from one moment to the next and when I got to the very last page...the very last paragraph...I was left speechless and screaming for more. How can I wait another year? UGGGGG the torture is insane.

INSURGENT is a great sequel and it did not disappoint because it was a action-packed, roller coaster ride full of mystery, intrigue and heart stopping romance that was well paced and never boring.
