Haven Terra is a brainy, shy high school outcast. But everything begins to change when she turns sixteen. Along with her best friend Dante and their quiet and brilliant classmate Lance, she is awarded a prestigious internship in the big city— Chicago—and is sent to live and work at a swanky and stylish hotel under the watchful eyes of a group of gorgeous and shockingly young-looking strangers: powerful and alluring hotel owner Aurelia Brown; her second-in-command, the dashing Lucian Grove; and their stunning but aloof staff of glamazons called The Outfit.

As Haven begins falling for Lucian, she discovers that these beautiful people are not quite what they seem. With the help of a mysterious book, she uncovers a network of secret passageways from the hotel’s jazz-age past that leads her to the heart of the evil agenda of Aurelia and company: they’re in the business of buying souls. Will they succeed in wooing Haven to join them in their recruitment efforts, or will she be able to thwart this devilish set’s plans to take the souls of her classmates on prom night at the hotel?

Illuminate is an exciting saga of a teen’s first taste of independence, her experience in the lap of luxury, and her discovery she may possess strength greater than she ever knew

Every Other Day Jennifer Lynn Barnes
To be released December 27th, 2011

Every other day, Kali D'Angelo is a normal sixteen-year-old girl. She goes to public high school. She attends pep rallies. She's human.

And then every day in between...She's something else entirely.

Though she still looks like herself, every twenty-four hours predatory instincts take over and Kali becomes a feared demon-hunter with the undeniable urge to hunt, trap, and kill zombies, hellhounds, and other supernatural creatures. Kali has no idea why she is the way she is, but she gives in to instinct anyway. Even though the government considers it environmental terrorism.

When Kali notices a mark on the lower back of a popular girl at school, she knows instantly that the girl is marked for death by one of these creatures. Kali has twenty-four hours to save her and, unfortunately, she'll have to do it as a human. With the help of a few new friends, Kali takes a risk that her human body might not survive...and learns the secrets of her mysterious condition in the process.

The year is 2009. Nineteen-year-old Jackson Meyer is a normal guy… he’s in college, has a girlfriend… and he can travel back through time. But it’s not like the movies – nothing changes in the present after his jumps, there’s no space-time continuum issues or broken flux capacitors – it’s just harmless fun.

That is… until the day strangers burst in on Jackson and his girlfriend, Holly, and during a struggle with Jackson, Holly is fatally shot. In his panic, Jackson jumps back two years to 2007, but this is not like his previous time jumps. Now he’s stuck in 2007 and can’t get back to the future.

Desperate to somehow return to 2009 to save Holly but unable to return to his rightful year, Jackson settles into 2007 and learns what he can about his abilities.
But it’s not long before the people who shot Holly in 2009 come looking for Jackson in the past, and these “Enemies of Time” will stop at nothing to recruit this powerful young time-traveler. Recruit… or kill him.

Piecing together the clues about his father, the Enemies of Time, and himself, Jackson must decide how far he’s willing to go to save Holly… and possibly the entire world.

About "Dreamland":

"Riley's finding that the afterlife can be a lonely place when all you do is focus on work. So she goes to the place where dreams happen, hoping to find a way to contact her sister, Ever. She meets the director, who tells her about the two ways to send dreams. As a Dream Jumper, a person can jump into a dreamer's dream, share a message, and participate. As a Dreamweaver, an entire dream can be created in a studio and sent to the dreamer. But Dreamweaving was outlawed decades ago, and the studio was boarded up. Thinking it's her only way to reach out to her sister, Riley goes in search of the old studio. There she finds a ghost boy, who's been creating and sending nightmares to people for years. Happy Labor Day! and I hope that everyone is having a safe and happy holiday.

Today I am showcasing Kepler's book store as part of my quest to promote all Indie book store YA events in the SF Bay Area.

Kepler's is my favorite book store because it has an impressive collection of books and it even has a sequestered area especially created for book events. I always enjoy spending time there and the staff is really helpful especially Angela, whom is the YA events coordinator. She has a plethora of knowledge and a passion for this genre unlike anyone I know. Next time you attend an event make sure to say hello and tell her how much you enjoy these events. A great place to get to know more about what she reads and enjoys is Kepler's Teen blog: THE BOOK BIND

In the next coming weeks and especially in the month of October, Kepler's is going to have a deluge of amazing YA authors. It goes without saying that I am very excited about this fall line up of amazement and want to share it with everyone.

Around the world, black handprints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky.

In a dark and dusty shop, a devil's supply of human teeth grown dangerously low.

And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherwordly war.

Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real; she's prone to disappearing on mysterious "errands"; she speaks many languages--not all of them human; and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she's about to find out.

When one of the strangers--beautiful, haunted Akiva--fixes his fire-colored eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. But will Karou live to regre learning the truth about herself?

I've seen him on the news. Followed the stories about what happened in Ohio. John Smith, out there, on the run. To the world, he's a mystery. But to me . . . he's one of us.

Nine of us came here, but sometimes I wonder if time has
changed us—if we all still believe in our mission. How can I know? There are six of us left. We're hiding, blending in, avoiding contact with one another . . . but our Legacies are developing, and soon we'll be equipped to fight. Is John
Number Four, and is his appearance the sign I've been waiting for? And what about Number Five and Six? Could one of them be the raven-haired girl with the stormy eyes from my dreams? The girl with powers that are beyond anything I could ever imagine? The girl who may be strong enough to bring the six of us together?

They caught Number One in Malaysia.
Number Two in England.
And Number Three in Kenya.
They tried to catch Number Four in Ohio—and failed.

I am Number Seven. One of six still alive.

And I'm ready to fight.
My Thoughts:

The Power of Six was a highly anticipated book for me because I truly enjoyed reading I am Number Four and was eager to find out what happens next. I just finished devouring it and all I can say is WOW!! The Power of Six was absolutely riveting from the very first sentence to the last, for it is an action packed roller coaster ride of an adventure.

Told in alternating POV's this next installment of the Lorien Legacies concentrates on number four, six and a new character Marina aka number seven. While number four, six and sam hiding out like fugitives on the run in the United States, Marina is leading a quiet and sheltered life in Spain in a convent. Marina cannot wait until she can leave the convent upon turning eighteen for her Saipon has all but given up on any idea of leaving or even training Marina in fighting off the Mogadorians. This fact has frustrated Marina to no end but she seeks solice in believing that the news featuring a trio on the run is part of her Lorian race and that she must help them. Meanwhile John Smith (number four) and his co-conspirators are trying to figure out how they are going to find the other race members, stay alive and basically save the world.

I cannot rave enough about this book for it was just soo good. The action never stops and I was kept on my toes witnessing both stories play out and the tension that was created was spot on brilliant. The action sequences were explosive and tight and as well as the interactions between all the characters. I felt Marina's frustration towards her Saipon were so tangible that I would want to bang my head out of the same feelings. WOW! Then I just adore Sam and his inner voice is so dead pan that I cannot seem to help but laugh whenever he makes an appearance. His love of all things alien is wicked amusing. I know some will have issue with John and his feelings that seem to grow towards six but as the story progresses it will become a bit more understanding. Old beliefs will be questioned and an impossible event will change everything and you won't believe what transpires.

I highly recommend this read to those that love action and adventure and a little bit of paranormal alien action. It is perfect for those that are hesitant to read sci-fi, a great light read. Romance, adventure and loads of action to always keep you on the edge of your seat. I cannot wait to read what comes next.

“Reading is everything. Reading makes me feel like I've accomplished something, learned something, become a better person. Reading makes me smarter. Reading gives me something to talk about later on. Reading is the unbelievably healthy way my attention deficit disorder medicates itself. Reading is escape, and the opposite of escape; it's a way to make contact with reality after a day of making things up, and it's a way of making contact with someone else's imagination after a day that's all too real. Reading is grist. Reading is bliss.”
