  • Jackson Meyer is hiding a secret. He can time-travel. But he doesn't know how he does it, how to control it or what it means. When Jackson, and his girlfriend Holly, find themselves in fatal danger, Jackson panics and catapaults himself two years into his past, further than he's ever managed before, and this time he can't find a way back to the future. All the rules of time-travel he's experienced so far have been broken and Jackson has no choice but to pretend to be his younger self whilst he figures out a solution. Jackson is tearing himself apart with guilt and frustration, wondering if Holly survived. He's also become the target of an unknown enemy force and it seems even his dad is lying to him. Jackson is racing against time to save the girl he loves, but to do that he must first discover the truth about his family and himself.
    And stay alive.

Today - Jackson and Holly are in love
Tomorrow - She will lie dying in his arm
Yesterday - Jackson must undo it all

Having read the synopsis for this novel I was totally on board to dive in and devour it. The concept of time travel is truly fascinating to me and I was eager to see how it would be addressed in this debut novel by Julie Cross. I am most happy to say that I found this novel most intriguing and unique among it's concept and delivery.
TEMPEST centers on Jackson Meyer, the main character, who can time travel but the unique twist is that he does not require a machine and he can only travel within the time limits that he has existed on earth. So, he cannot travel into the future and hang with Michael J. Fox and the Delorean, but he can see loved ones that have passed on, which is a pivital point in this love story.

I am not a big sci-fi fan and yet this story kept my interest and made it difficult for me to put down.  The concept of the storyline was well explained and easy to follow which I believe is crucial in a novel of this nature, otherwise I would have lost interest, but that was not the case. Along with the paranormal nature of this novel there is the continuing mysterious vibe and danger that grabs you and keeps the story from becoming overly sappy.

Despite the novel having been promoted as a "Twilight-like" novel I found that it would appeal to an even greater genre of readers because it has a great paranormal scientific edge while at it's heart is the love story between Jackson and Holly and I know it is the magic ingredient that makes you NEED to know what happens next.

TEMPEST is fast paced read while featuring characters that are memorable and well fleshed out while interrjected with a scientific paranormal edge that is unique and sure to ensare you.

    9. So happy that you liked it! It's always so disappointing when books get so much buzz early on, but the book ends up failing to meet expectations.

    11. As much as I enjoyed Twilight, this sounds nothing like it. I love the Time Travel aspect of it and if it makes me feel like I did when I read Twilight, than that's okay too.

    18. I can't wait to read this. It sounds amazing! I liked Twilight but I think that way too many books (alot of them good reads) claim to be like Twilight. It's annoying! Don't they realize that people might want something else. Twilight is like Twilight, lets leave it at that.

    19. great review! i was so on board with Tempest when i read the synopsis, too. it is amazing.

    20. Great review! Can't wait for the release date!
