Summary:

When alchemist Sydney is ordered into hiding to protect the life of Moroi princess Jill Dragomir, the last place she expects to be sent is a human private school in Palm Springs, California. But at their new school, the drama is only just beginning.

Populated with new faces as well as familiar ones, Bloodlines explores all the friendship, romance, battles and betrayals that made the #1 New York Times bestselling Vampire Academy series so addictive - this time in a part-vampire, part-human setting where the stakes are even higher and everyone's out for blood.

My Thoughts:

One of my favorite YA series is the Vampire Academy series created by Richelle Mead. I was sad to see the series end but soon found myself consoled when she announced that her series would branch out with different protagonists. I set high expectations for this novel but remembered that I was not an enthusiastic fan of the very first VA novel but soon was convinced otherwise. So, I cleared my mind and went in with no expectations and was entertained and pleased by what I encountered.

Now we return into the well known Vampire Academy world, filled with beloved characters and now a new protagonist is taking charge. Sydney, the strong minded alchemist whom assisted Rose in her escape now finds herself on the verge of being ousted because of her involvement.
She is momentarily spared when she asked to help protect Jill Dragomir, Princess and sister to the Queen in Palm Springs. Sydney's fears of vampires and magic come to a head when she takes on this challenge and becomes entangled with the infamous Adrian Belikov, and although Sydney fears him she knows that when strange events occurs he is the only one that she can truly count on or can she?

I will be the first to admit that I was a happy clam to have Adrian back into my reading library. He is one of my very favorite tortured characters that always puts a smile on my face. Although I wish for more romantic chemistry between Sydney and Adrian, I am not totally convinced that those two are meant for each other. I am not feeling it yet, but hopefully that will be solidified with future novels. I like that this new series has memorable characters both old and new and a gripping storyline that quickly caught my attention and now I cannot wait to read about what happens next, especially after how BLOODLINES ended on such a dun dun dun.....ending. Wow! does that Richelle Mead know how to leave us hanging, but I don't care because I will always come back for more.

For those fans of the Vampire Academy series this new endevour is not to be missed, and if you have not read those books yet then I highly recommend it for you will not be disappointed.

“Reading is everything. Reading makes me feel like I've accomplished something, learned something, become a better person. Reading makes me smarter. Reading gives me something to talk about later on. Reading is the unbelievably healthy way my attention deficit disorder medicates itself. Reading is escape, and the opposite of escape; it's a way to make contact with reality after a day of making things up, and it's a way of making contact with someone else's imagination after a day that's all too real. Reading is grist. Reading is bliss.”
