  • Caitlyn Monahan knows she belongs somewhere else. It's what her dead mother's note suggested, and it's what her recurring nightmares allude to.

Desperate to flee these terrifying dreams--and her small
town--she accepts a spot at a boarding school in France. Only, when she arrives, her nightmares get worse.

But then there are her amazing dreams, so vivid and so real, with visits from an alluring, mysterious, and gorgeous Italian boy from the 1500s. Caitlyn knows they are soul mates, but how can she be in love with someone who exists only in her dreams?

Then, as her reality and dream world collide, Caitlyn searches for the real reason why she was brought to this school. And what she discovers will change her life forever.

    REVIEW

I did not know what to expect when I began reading WAKE UNTO ME by Lisa Cach and I was pleasantly surprised to encounter a story that is filled with historical intrigue, mystery and a romance that transcends space and time.

Caitlyn Monahan is a 15 year old girl haunted by dreams since she was a little girl, some dreams are harmless and other dreams are nightmarish, filled with screams and disturbing images. Caitlyn longs to be normal and to escape those dreams that plague her, but she cannot deny the feeling that she does not belong and that leaving Oregon is the answer. Then an opportunity presents itself to Caitlyn, one that she immediately embraces and soon she earns a scholarship to a French boarding school, Chateau de la Fortune.

Once within the stone walls of her new boarding school her infrequent dreams escalate to a frequency that is unsettling. And despite that fact Caityln is eager for those dreams because there she encounters a charming young man named Raphael. She cannot believe the feelings that come forth whenever she is with him, the undeniable pull and attraction and the sense that she belongs to him. Together they uncover a mystery that is hundreds of years old, one that reveals a startling history of her school and it's grounds, but nothing frightens her like the secret of whom and what she is, her destiny finally revealed.

I have to admit that initially, within the first few chapters I was shaking my head. I found that the ease in which Caitlyn found her new school and was accepted to be a bit far fetched, and I am always sceptical with sudden romances. Yet, I pushed forth and found myself pulled into the romantic mystery of this book. I could not pin point the exact moment at when I was totally consumed by this story but I could not stop reading it, the need to find out about this castle, this boy and what brought them together was the only thing I cared about. There were many twists and turns on the road to this discovery and it made this book all the more intriguing. I enjoyed uncovering the bits and pieces of the puzzle as I went along, even those that I could see coming that would usually annoy me. Yet, with this story it all seems to fit.

I really enjoyed The Davinci Code and WAKE UNTO ME reminded me alot of that favored read. The historial and religious aspects that were presented were well detailed and intriguing. Not to forget the paranormal edge that was paramount to Caitlyn and her own mystery that was unique and a great distraction. This book great read for all ages.

“Reading is everything. Reading makes me feel like I've accomplished something, learned something, become a better person. Reading makes me smarter. Reading gives me something to talk about later on. Reading is the unbelievably healthy way my attention deficit disorder medicates itself. Reading is escape, and the opposite of escape; it's a way to make contact with reality after a day of making things up, and it's a way of making contact with someone else's imagination after a day that's all too real. Reading is grist. Reading is bliss.”
