Waiting on Wednesday: STOLEN by Lucy Christopher

Jill over at Breaking the Spine started this and I believe that it's awesome" This blog post is to alert those that visit about "the" book that we cannot wait to get our hands on. I have decided to participate because I have a list that can go on forever and ever and it is interesting to see what else others are "waiting" for also.

I saw this book cover and read the synopsis on a UK blog months ago and am very happy that this novel will become available next year in the US. This book sounds amazing

STOLEN by Lucy Christopher

US release May 1, 2010 already available in the UK

Gemma, 16, is on layover at Bangkok Airport, en route with her parents to a vacation in Vietnam. She steps away for just a second, to get a cup of coffee. Ty--rugged, tan, too old, oddly familiar--pays for Gemma's drink. And drugs it. They talk. Their hands touch. And before Gemma knows what's happening, Ty takes her. Steals her away. The unknowing object of a long obsession, Gemma has been kidnapped by her stalker and brought to the desolate Australian Outback. STOLEN is her gripping story of survival, of how she has to come to terms with her living nightmare--or die trying to fight it.

REVIEW YYY out of 5

This third and final installment of Lisa McMann's Dream Catcher trilogy begins shortly after WAKE ended were we learn about Janie's disheartening future.

Gone begins with Janie and Cabel on vacation trying to enjoy a few days of peace and relaxation due to the stressful trial of which Janie was the main witness. Now she is known around town as a narc. As if possessing a crippling gift and having an alcoholic mother is not enough to deal with already.

Janie continues to struggle with her relationship with Cabel and their future together, or rather their future apart. Yet, before she can devote more time to the saddening subject a stranger comes into her life that she is not prepared for; an individual that turns her world inside out with the information that they possess. Janie learns of an alternative choice to her existence and with that the decision that would change her life forever.

Can Janie make a choice when both options are hopeless and filled with despair? She will need to make a decision soon for her time is running out...

I have to say that this series by Lisa McMann was one of my favorites and I could not wait until this last installment, but I was left disappointed. I disliked the numerous times that Janie kept insinuating that she wanted to be with Cabel yet every time they were together all she kept thinking about was leaving him and how that would hurt. I understood her character's reasoning but it became a bit over repetitive for me.

Then as the results of her contemplated isolation come to light she was faced with a "Mortan's Fork" decision. While I could appreciate the storyline twist I found it to be sad and anticlimactic unlike it's predecessors. This story is quite bleak, even as Janie makes what is considered the "better" choice.

Despite my upset I can say that I admire Lisa's writing style, it is quick and edgy, to the point and effective with deliverance i.e. Janie's inner turmoil. I only wish that that I did not finish reading this book feeling as crestfallen as i did and wanting more.

My favorite reads for 2009 and what is yours?

MY FAVORITE READS FOR 2009 (and in no particular order)

  2. If I stay by Gayle Foreman
  3. Fire by Kristin Cashore

  5. Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins
  6. Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater
  7. Prophecy of the Sisters by Michelle Zink
  8. City of Glass by Cassandra Clare
  9. Fade by Lisa McMann
  10. The Maze Runner by James Dashner
  11. Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side by Beth Fantaskey
  12. Demon Princess by Michelle Rowen
This list of novels are the ones that when anyone ask me about recommendations spring instantly to mind or were the books that lingered in my mind long after I had finished them. So, now that you know what are my favorites please tell me what yours are.

An author guest blog with Chloe Neill

Today I have the pleasure of hosting a guest blog with Chloe Neill, author of FIRESPELL. Chloe is also the author of the Chicagoland vampires and she is giving us a holiday treat.

I recently had the opportunity to sit down with Merit, Mallory, Jeff and Ethan, some of the main cast of characters in
my CHICAGOLAND VAMPIRES series, as they celebrated the holidays. I asked a few questions and got a few answers,
which I thought I'd share with you!

Chloe: Good evening, everyone. How are things?

Jeff: *glancing at Merit* Awesome.

Merit: *rolling her eyes* Great. Thanks, Chloe.

Ethan: *also rolling his eyes*

Mallory: *nibbling on the end of a peppermint stick* Things are fabu.

Chloe: Great. Let's start off with your holiday plans. Anything big on the agenda?

Merit: Mallory and I will be having dinner with my grandfather.

Mallory: Translation, Merit will be eating most of the meatloaf.

Merit: Hey, you've had my grandfather's meatloaf. You know how good it is.

Mallory: True. It is pretty good. God's own meatloaf, you might say.

Jeff: *nudging Merit with a small, red box* I have something for you.

Merit: *taking box with quizzical expression* What's this?

Jeff: Your Christmas present. Or holiday present. Or whatever vampires celebrate. Open it.

Merit: *opening the box and pulling out a small bit of silk lingerie* Aw, Jeff. You shouldn't have. Really. And I mean

Mallory: Jeff, Jeff, Jeff. What's on your Christmas agenda?

Jeff: I'll be hanging out with the fam. Dinner at Grammy Christopher's, brunch at Grandpa Sherman's. Good times.

Chloe: That's great. I'm glad you're able to share time with friends and family. Any special items on your Christmas
wish list?

Merit: I've got tons of books on my Amazon wish list. *nudging Mallory* Hint, hint.

Mallory: Your lump of coal is already in your stocking. Next!

Jeff: Is 'Merit' an acceptable answer? Nah, seriously, there are a couple of terabyte externals I've been looking at, and I
wouldn't mind having a DSI. Texts and RPG in a single device? Yes, please.

Mallory: I'd like world peace. And maybe an attitude adjustment for my boyfriend.

Merit: Aw, you love him just the way he is.

Mallory: Yeah, I guess. But if he suddenly started bowing down to me, painting my toes and calling me 'goddess,' I
wouldn't complain.

Chloe: Well, thanks for that insight, Mal. How about any final holiday wishes?

Mallory: *poking Merit with a finger* I already called 'world peace.' So you can't say that.

Merit: How about Celina behind bars? Or turned to a pile of glittery ashes?

Mallory: Oh, nice one.

Jeff: I hope all my friends and family have a healthy, safe, and fun holidays.

Mallory: You really are a sweetie, you know that?

Jeff: *Blushing* Would you like to find out how sweet---

Chloe: *clamping hand over Jeff's mouth* And that's all we have time for right now. Thanks for dropping by, and a
Happy New Year to all!

GONE by Lisa McMann

Janie thought she knew what her future held. And she thought she'd made her peace with it. But she can't handle dragging Cabel down with her.

She knows he will stay with her, despite what she sees in his dreams. He's amazing. And she's a train wreck. Janie sees only one way to give him the life he deserves--she has to disappear. And it's going to kill them both.

Then a stranger enters her life--and everything unravels. The future Janie once faced now has an ominous twist, and her choices are more dire than she'd ever thought possible. She alone must decide between the lesser of two evils. And time is running out...

He reaches toward her, his fingers black and bloody, his eyes deranged, unblinking. Janie is paralyzed. His cold hands reach around her neck, squeezing tight, tighter, until Janie has no breath left. She's unable to move, unable to think. As his grasp tightens further around Janie's neck, his face turns sickly alabaster. He strains harder and begins to shake.

Janie is dying.
She has no fight left in her.
It's over.

UNHOLY GHOSTS by Stacia Kane
THE AFTERLIFE IS ONLY THE BEGINNING.The world is not the way it was. The dead have risen and constantly attack the living. The powerful Church of Real Truth, in charge since the government fell, has sworn to reimburse citizens being harassed by the deceased. Consequently, there are many false claims of hauntings from those hoping to profit. Enter Chess Putnam, a fully-tattooed witch and freewheeling Debunker and ghost hunter. She’s got a real talent for nailing the human liars or banishing the wicked dead. But she’s keeping a dark secret from the Church: a little drug problem that’s landed her in hot and dangerous water.

Chess owes a murderous drug lord named Bump a lot of money. And Bump wants immediate payback. All Chess has to do is dispatch a very nasty species of undead from an old airport. But the job involves black magic, human sacrifice, a nefarious demonic creature, and crossing swords with enough wicked energy to wipe out a city of souls. Toss in lust with a rival gang leader and a dangerous attraction to Bump’s ruthless enforcer, and Chess begins to wonder if the rush is really worth it. Hell, yeah.

Seventeen-year-old Lennie Walker, bookworm and band geek, plays second clarinet and spends her time tucked safely and happily in the shadow of her fiery older sister, Bailey. But when Bailey dies abruptly, Lennie is catapulted to center stage of her own life—and, despite her nonexistent history with boys, suddenly finds herself struggling to balance two. Toby was Bailey’s boyfriend; his grief mirrors Lennie’s own. Joe is the new boy in town, a transplant from Paris whose nearly magical grin is matched only by his musical talent. For Lennie, they’re the sun and the moon; one boy takes her out of her sorrow, the other comforts her in it. But just like their celestial counterparts, they can’t collide without the whole wide world exploding.

To better her odds, Jill enlists the help of gorgeous, brooding Tristen Hyde, who has his own dark secrets locked away. As the team of Jekel and Hyde, they recreate experiments based on the classic novel, hoping not only to win a prize, but to save Tristen’s sanity. Maybe his

    The Lonely Hearts Club

I, Penny Lane Bloom, do solemnly swear to never date another boy for as long as I shall live. All right, maybe I’ll reconsider it in ten years or so when I’m no longer living in Parkview, Illinois, or attending McKinley High School, but for now I’m done with guys. They’re all lying, cheating scum of the earth.Yes, every last one of them. Pure evil. Sure, there are some that seem nice, but the second they get what they want, they’ll dump you and move onto their next target. So I’m done. No more dating. The end.
Love is all you need…or is it?
