"Say it Again Saturday" is a new feature hosted by fellow blogger and friend Karin, at Karin's Book Nook. She created this feature because like me, there are times when you read a book and there is this certain passage/line/moment that just implants itself in your brain and never lets go. It can either make you weak in the knees, laugh till your crying from the effort or just cry because your heart was torn apart. The next thing you know is that you want to tell anyone about what you just read. So this is your golden opportunity to let those see what you find brilliant.

I admit to being a bad girl and forgot my post last saturday so.....I have a really good post for today. I repurchased this book this week and it saddens me that I do not know where my original book went, but I remember this part so well.

Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson

"I stand there, papers trembling as if a breeze is blowing through the closed door. I turn around and rip my poster off the blackboard"

"THE SUFFRAGETTES FOUGHT FOR THE RIGHT TO SPEAK.

THEY WERE ATTACKED, ARRESTED, AND THROWN IN JAIL

FOR DARING TO DO WHAT THEY WANTED. LIKE THEY WERE,

I AM WILLING TO STAND UP FOR WHAT I BELIEVE. NO ONE

SHOULD BE FORCED TO GIVE SPEECHES, I CHOOSE TO STAY SILENT."

"The class reads slowly, some of them moving their lips. Mr. Neck turns around to see what everyone is staring at. I nod at David"

David: "Melinda has to deliver her report to the class as part of the assignment. She made copies everyone can read."

and further down the page

"My plan is to stand in front of the class for the five minutes I was given for my presentation. The suffragettes must have planned out and timed their protest, too. Mr Neck has other plans. he gives me a D and escorts me to the authorities. I forgot about how the suffragettes were hauled of to jail. Duh."

“Reading is everything. Reading makes me feel like I've accomplished something, learned something, become a better person. Reading makes me smarter. Reading gives me something to talk about later on. Reading is the unbelievably healthy way my attention deficit disorder medicates itself. Reading is escape, and the opposite of escape; it's a way to make contact with reality after a day of making things up, and it's a way of making contact with someone else's imagination after a day that's all too real. Reading is grist. Reading is bliss.”
